Is HFC-227ea Fire Extinguishing Agent Harmful To Equipment?

HFC-227ea has a high boiling point and is non-conductive and non-corrosive.  It is a colorless, tasteless, non-conductive gas with the molecular formula CF3CHFCF3. 

Its fire-extinguishing mechanism is to inhibit chemical chain reactions and also has a cooling effect. It has a small storage space and low working pressure. The disadvantage is that it can produce harmful compounds such as HF when heated.It is usually used in places with electronic equipment, material archives, and other non-intensive personnel, and is harmless to powered equipment. Therefore, it will not damage electronic instruments, computers, software, data files, communication equipment, or complex medical equipment, and does not require the removal of residues of fire-extinguishing materials that most fire extinguishers have.

However, there are still some considerations in application: when a fire is detected and needs to be put out, regardless of whether it is automatic or manual, personnel should be evacuated first. The possible harm of the compound produced by the synthesis of HFC-227ea at high temperatures, mainly the fluorine in the fire extinguishing agent, may produce hydrogen fluoride (HF) with a pungent taste in the presence of hydrogen. When the concentration reaches more than 10%, people will feel uncomfortable, and over time, there may be a risk to life.
